@Axtremus said in They never taught this in my medical school: @Horace Where do you see the claim of being victims of oppression in either video? An educational perspective might be, to imagine if a bunch of young white males had done the video, and the cultural backlash against that. Maybe you don't think there would be a backlash, and that's ok. I am here to educate, rather than to condemn. People are ok with venerating high status proctors of important truths, such as highly educated, intelligent doctors, until those doctors take that veneration for granted, rather than as something earned, as a continuing lifestyle of humble work.

I’m in Cocoa Beach now too. I would have heard that launch from the VRBO.

@Horace said in Yesterday's Concert - My fourth Ninth.: I think I've seen the ninth once in San Francisco. The conductor of this performance was one of Michael Tilson Thomas' students/protege's. From 2018 to 2023, Goodman served as an Assistant Conductor to the San Francisco Symphony, working alongside Michael Tilson Thomas, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Manfred Honeck, Daniel Harding, Pablo Heras-Casado, Simone Young, and James Gaffigan, among others

John D'Oh was an old goat, certainly. However, I never saw him take a drink.

How anyone can support criminal charges is beyond me. In my view, limited as it is, the Israelis have exercised great restraint in the face of an enemy who wants them to kill civilians.

This is a NFA case. Suppressors are subject to most of the same rules as machine guns. Why, I don't know...Europeans seem to be more lenient about suppressors than we are.

@taiwan_girl I don’t think the poor chap was nailed to that fence in as part of a passion play in celebration of Orthodox Easter. Something far more sinister was at play in this incident.

Getting into the weeds a bit. The IABP (Intra Aortic Balloon Pump) is a notoriously tricky device to operate. The timing of inflation and deflation have to be adjusted very, VERY, precisely. If you fuck it up, someone's heart attack might very well get bigger, and that would be the best outcome. Mrs. George, in another life, taught some courses on how to manage the IABP in the ICU. If we had trouble weaning an open heart patient from the pump, the surgeon would insert an IABP to "unload" the heart and hopefully get the patient to the ICU. In the "bad old days" inserting an IABP was a big deal. Surgeon would make an incision in the groin and find the femoral artery. He would then take a piece of dacron tubing, about ¾" in diameter and sew its end to an incision in the femoral artery. Then, the IABP would be inserted through the Dacron. Taking the IABP out was another trip to the OR - had to remove the graft on the femoral artery and then close the artery. Eventually, the tech matured so that the IABP could be inserted percutaneously. Made a huge difference. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intra-aortic_balloon_pump [image: 1715007181631-screenshot-2024-05-06-at-9.52.44-am.png] Link to video

@Jolly said in A 2700 PSI Pressure Pressure Washer is a Helluva Toy: If you can build furniture, you can frame, sheetrock and do tile work. With flexible connectors and plastic pipe, a lot of plumbing (replacing faucets, changing out sinks and commodes) got a lot easier. Electrical? That can get complicated. Able and willing are two very different things.
